POEMS

List Your Experience
I was asked to create a poem for a writing class in which we made a list. I decide to chronicle moments of my life, those brief flashes that we never forget, into a list of experiences.

If I Could Tell You

List your experience
by Lorna Moorhead

I  have seen…

a blind man who could see my beauty.
a man alone in his house with his head in his hands.
you in the car picking your nose.
blood dripping on the white tile floor.
a prostitute riddled with Aids and holes.
obsession from the inside and out.
my son's birth in the glasses of another man.
the dramas of grocery store baggers.
the fat lady sing.
a cheetah meow.
the inside of a dirty diaper.
the butt crack of dawn.
my parents out of their costumes.
a plastic horse race.
you fall.

I have seen...

a giant take on a single file line of knights.
a woman crying while she drove.
my brother in boxers.
you pee in the bushes.
a suited man pad about in his socks.
the weed whacker in the garden of evil.
a girl hug a puppet.
a jellybean trail.
a plastic Jesus not light up.

I have seen...

a star buy a postcard.
the "Great Artichoke" statue.
a poisonous snake look the other way.
the cat dragging a bag.
divorce on Valentine's day.
a rich man wash my plate.
your tattoo.

Please tell me what you think!

If I could tell you one thing..
by Lorna Moorhead

Once I looked at you and thought you could be better.
Things were too small
Too lonely
And too young.

I look at you now and think how you were better
So small
So independent
And so young.

I fail to recall when I thought you were perfect.
When I looked at you and thought you were just right.
What day was it that everything was splendid?
What night when I knew nothing could get better?

I wonder how I missed that fleeting moment
I laugh at myself
And sometimes cry from shame

If I had one chance
I know what I would teach you
The girl in the mirror never needed to change.

Please tell me what you think!
