A
uthor Graham was diagnosed with MS when she was 28.Her new book Multiple Sclerosis and Having a Baby provides other women who are considering starting a family with the kind of genuine and useful insight that comes only from firsthand experience. The author, who has lived with multiple sclerosis most of her adult life, delves deeply into her own experience to reveal the keys to regaining emotional and spiritual wholeness when a serious illness or injury threatens to destroy one's sense of self.

For fourteen years, Barbara Webster suffered from multiple sclerosis undetected. Physicians and friends had considered her neurotic with her "imaginary" ailments. Here, she describes the gradual process of accepting life with a chronic, potentially disabling disease.

"This bold, saucy book deserves plenty of readers, despite and because of the fact that bold and saucy are not words you'd think to apply to the story of a woman now profoundly handicapped and confined to bed and a wheelchair. But James writes with drive and humor of her decision, upon being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, to live out a dream of freedom and adventure in Alaska--and of how she did. She left a burgeoning radio career in Pittsburgh and found friendship and love in Anchorage and its nearby Kenai Peninsula. Regular attacks of her disease eventually crippled her body, but her spirit still soars. A dramatic, frank-talking account of a life changed by disease." Pat Monaghan-Booklist

"If a copy of this book could fall from the sky onto the desks of people with possible, probable, or definite MS the minute the first twinge of their disorder occurred, life for people with MS and their friends and doctors would be infinitely improved. This is undoubtedly the most practical book I've read for those affected by MS in any way. Many books about MS try to offer definitive answers where there are none, or pooh-pooh certain theories of cause or treatment while giving others glowing and incomplete reviews, or take overly optimistic or pessimistic views of living with MS. This book, however, gives a refreshingly balanced discussion of the disease and how to cope with it."
I just recently purchased this book for myself and am already planning on sending a copy to my family members. The book is easy to read, calming, and to the point. It does not feel that the author is only repeating medical reviews but is genuinely concerned with day to day MS care.~ Lorna MS Moms President

A reader from Marina, CA says "
This is a book that must be read by everyone that has ever thought why is this all happening to me. She does a great job showing us that it is truly difficult to balance a good marriage, children and a career, and that there are bound to be bumps along the road.

I also really enjoyed how she emphasized how important it is for females to build a community of other caring females, and to get this message out particularly to our girls. She also goes on to mention that you can give some of your time and effort to the schools, and let them understand what you have done and been through and with our experiences can help others.
